What To Expect

Cycling from 'New Bangkok', you and your guide will bike through the back lanes and twisting alleys of Bangkok, through the historic Rattanakosin Island to cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry to the first settlements of “Old Bangkok”. Stopping at a historic Portuguese bakery to taste an ancient Portuguese cupcake before biking to some truly breathtaking temples.

Biking on through Old Bangkok's back alleys and along small tree-lined canals or klongs until you arrive at an old market community. Leave your bicycles by the canal and enjoy a simple Thai food lunch on the canal banks before visiting the local market and Artist's House. At the Artist's House, on most days, you will be treated to a performance of a unique and authentic traditional Thai puppetry not to be seen elsewhere.

Saying goodbye to the puppets and the market, stepping into a long tail boat with the bicycles stowed in back you will enter a maze of canals. These are the khlongs that have earned Bangkok its nickname, 'the Venice of the East.' Journey up the Chao Phraya River, the River of Kings, past the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, the boatmen will dock for you and your guide to unload the bikes and then pedal back to where the bike tour began.

Gather at the Grasshopper shop
Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Bike Tours Shop near Khao San Rd at 9:30 am. The tour will depart at 10 am sharp. Make sure you allow plenty of time to get here, taking into account the heavy Bangkok traffic. After a quick bike fitting and briefing we are off on the bikes. Cycling off the main roads we use small lanes, alleyways and canal boats to immerse you into the soul of Bangkok.

Ferry and cycle to the communities of Santa Cruz Wat Kalyanamit
Here along the banks of the Chao Phraya River is where Bangkok first began. Stopping at the first Christian community of Santa Cruz to visit the descendants of the early Portuguese traders who have been making a Portuguese cupcake for over 5 generations. Then pedal to the neighbouring Chinese Thai temple of Wat Kalayanamit and the site of Bangkok's first Chinatown. Wat Kalyanamit houses Bangkok's largest sitting Buddhist image.

Cycle to Wat Hongrattanaram
Here you will stop briefly to see a shrine devoted to the first king of Bangkok, Taksin. The Chapel of Wat Hongrattanaram is the largest in Thonburi and according to some the most beautiful in Bangkok.

Cycle Khlong Bang Luang and the Artist's Village
Cycling back lanes and pedaling along small tree-lined canals you will arrive at an old wooden market with a historic community temple. Centuries ago trading communities formed along the canals on the outskirts of Bangkok to buy the goods coming to market from the outlying farms and orchards. The former wealth of these trading communities can be seen in the elegant architecture of the temples they left behind.

A local Thai lunch by Bang Luang Canal
Enjoy a simple tasty Thai lunch in a local eatery by the canal in the grounds of the community temple.

Traditional Thai Puppet Show
A group of Artists have taken up residence in a 200 year old traditional wooden house on the banks of Khlong Bang Luang. Inside the Artist's House is an art gallery and gift shop. But most interesting of all is the performance the Hoon Lek puppeteers. Combining traditional Khon dance makes for probably the most unique form of puppetry you may ever see. There is a performance most days, except when the puppet troupe is away. The modern inhabitants of the old wooden trading houses these days sell artwork and vintage crafts as well as fish food for your to feed the abundant fish in the canal.

Ply the Canals and the Chao Phraya River
Stowing the bikes in the back of a long tail boat you and your guide wend your way down the ancient canals to Chao Phraya River. Sailing up the River of the Kings you will pass the Grand Palace before docking near Khaosan Rd.

Return to the Grasshopper Shop
Disembarking from the boat with your bike pedal a short distance back to the Grasshopper shop to finish the tour around 3:30 pm. The bike tour usually takes 4 - 5 hours but this is variable by group. Lunch is included in the bike tour.

Still have question?

How do I book on Inspitrip?

For most experiences on Inspitrip, there are two options: Small Group and Private tour. For both options, you can chat with your local guide and other people in your group even before the trip takes place.
  • Small group tour: operates with a maximum number of people. If you like to make new friends, this is a great option. You would pay for the trip to confirm your slot, then join a chat group with your local guide as well as fellow travel buddies, everything would be on Inspitrip. Get to know them!
  • Private tour: maximizes your privacy and allows you to freely customize the itinerary. First, request to communicate any specific needs you may have, wait a couple minutes for these requests to be confirmed, and then you can proceed to payment.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellation is free if you cancel up to 48 hours before the trip date. We believe that this is the fairest way to ensure that both our travelers and local guides are happy.

Does the Small Group option still operate if there are less than the maximum number of people signed up?

Yes, even if you are the only person who signs up for the trip on a given date, the tour will still take place.

My question is not listed here. What should I do?
